Joseph Ndereyimana fled Rwanda during the 1994 genocide and, after a journey across the region, reached Dzaleka in 1995, the year after the camp was established. His first-person account of that flight and arrival was published in 1999 as Walk This Way: The Journey of a Rwandan Refugee, told to Carolyn Neville and edited by Janet Jackson.
