Our Story
The Skills Exchange was born from the incredible resilience and talent within the Dzaleka Refugee Camp community. When people arrive here, they bring with them not just their stories of survival, but also their skills, knowledge, and determination to rebuild their lives.
We discovered that within our community, we have photographers like Philemon Kasaro who runs Kasa Pro studio, earning 300,000 Malawi Kwacha monthly while teaching others. We have filmmakers like Muenyemali Mutewa Tresort who saved 300,000 Kwacha to buy his first camera and now teaches photography and filmmaking to help others improve their lives.
We have young entrepreneurs like Baraka Venus who started photography in 2020 and now earns money to support himself, no longer depending on his parents. And experienced professionals like Simeon Blaise Kijege who has been doing photography since the nineties and continues to be a source of income for his family of 7 children.
