About Youth On Board (YOBO)
Youth On Board Organization (YOBO) is a registered charity dedicated to creating climate-resilient communities through the implementation of permaculture technology. YOBO works with youth, youth farmers, girls and women at Dzaleka Refugee Camp, youth with disabilities, and street kids, as well as NGOs, government entities, and schools in Malawi, Zambia, and Tanzania.
Mission
To create climate-resilient communities through permaculture training, empowering youth, women, and marginalized groups to eradicate poverty, hunger, and malnutrition.
Vision
To establish a Permagreen-Nutrition Lab as an international learning hub for permaculture, empowering and uplifting Malawian communities living in poverty by offering training and resources related to permaculture.
Key Goals
- Create climate resilience communities
- Eradicate hunger, poverty, and malnutrition among women and children
- Provide permaculture training to over 100,000 farmers by 2030
- Train farmers about waste management
- Invest in agri-nutrition technologies
Impact (2014–2024)
- Trained 9,000 youth farmers (including girls and women) at Dzaleka Refugee Camp and engaged with 600 schools (2014–2022)
- With UNDP support (2022–2024), impact tripled to reach 27,000 farmers
- Each trained youth farmer shared knowledge with about 200 others, impacting over 5.4 million individuals
- Achieved SDGs 1, 2, 3, 12, and 13 (eradicating poverty, hunger, promoting health, responsible consumption, and climate action)
