About the Artist

Paulin Engambee has been living in Dzaleka, Malawi since March 2012, when he came to seek asylum due to insecurity. He is from Uvira in South-Kivu, Democratic Republic of Congo.

Artistic Journey

He started drawing at the age of 10 and went to a painting school thereafter. He currently runs a home-based gallery where he draws and paints alongside his wife, who does various crafts.

Challenges

Paulin is a talented artist who has participated in a number of exhibitions in and outside the camp. However he still faces a few challenges: low buying prices for his work, poor painting materials, etc.

Dzaleka Art Project

Paulin is one of the visual artists participating in the Dzaleka Art Project, which supports and promotes artistic expression within the refugee camp community.

Artistic Community

As a member of this vibrant artistic community, Paulin contributes to the rich cultural landscape of Dzaleka through visual arts and creative expression, despite the challenges of limited resources.
