About the Artist
Jonathan Kizazi is a young Congolese man who was the first-born in his family of thirteen children. He fled from his country of origin in December of 2017 following threats from his father’s family to kill him and his siblings.
Artistic Journey
He completed art in school for four years in Lubumbashi in the DRC. When he came to the Dzaleka refugee camp, he decided to attend several training sessions from different artists in the camp. He now does murals for a living.
Challenges
However, he has difficulty finding adequate materials to do his work and prices are very low on the camp market.
Dzaleka Art Project
Jonathan is one of the visual artists participating in the Dzaleka Art Project, which supports and promotes artistic expression within the refugee camp community.
Artistic Community
As a member of this vibrant artistic community, Jonathan contributes to the rich cultural landscape of Dzaleka through mural painting and wall art, despite the challenges of limited resources.
