Jali is Oliver Twist’s account of leaving Rwanda after the 1994 genocide, spending fourteen years in Malawi, and later resettling in Australia.

The memoir developed from Twist’s one-person stage work of the same name. Dzaleka’s story and marketplace records identify the Malawian camp in his account with Dzaleka.
