About the Role

Inua Advocacy is seeking passionate and committed volunteers to join our Board of Directors.

At Inua Advocacy, we work to advance the rights, dignity, and inclusion of refugees and other forcibly displaced people in Malawi. While we provide legal aid, combat human trafficking and migrant smuggling, deliver emergency support to refugees, and work alongside refugee leaders to strengthen self-advocacy, our long-term vision is to see Malawi’s Refugees Act reformed to uphold the rights and dignity of refugees.

We believe that modernising the legal framework is essential to creating an environment where refugees can become self-reliant, contribute to their communities, and live with dignity. By amplifying refugee voices and advocating for evidence-based policy reform, we seek lasting change that benefits both refugees and the communities that host them.

This is a voluntary position. The Board provides strategic leadership, oversight, and accountability for the organisation. Board members meet once every quarter, usually online, and support management in shaping organisational strategy, strengthening governance, and advancing fundraising efforts. Members will also be asked to authorise organisational payments through an online banking platform approximately once or twice each month as part of our financial oversight responsibilities.

Qualifications & Areas of Interest

We are particularly interested in hearing from Malawians, whether based in Malawi or abroad, who have experience in:

  • Media and communications
  • Humanitarian work
  • Public policy
  • Law
  • Fundraising
  • Finance
  • Community mobilisation
  • Organisational governance

Above all, we are looking for people with a genuine commitment to advancing the rights of refugees and supporting refugee-led change in Malawi. If you believe in justice, good governance, and creating lasting opportunities for refugees to rebuild their lives, we would be delighted to hear from you.
