Convention on the Rights of the Child (1989)

The Convention on the Rights of the Child is a human rights treaty which sets out the civil, political, economic, social, health and cultural rights of children. Malawi acceded in 1991.

Background

Adopted in 1989, the Convention on the Rights of the Child is the most widely ratified human rights treaty in history. It sets out the rights of children and the obligations of governments to protect those rights. Malawi became a party to the Convention in 1991, affirming its commitment to child rights and protection.
