Background
James Niyomugabo’s family fled the Burundian civil war, and he was born in a refugee camp in Tanzania. He continued his education in Malawi at Dzaleka, and his family later moved to South Africa before he settled in Canada. He works in spoken-word poetry, often drawing on his Christian faith.
Work
Niyomugabo is credited as an author of Make Africa Great Again: Spoken Word Anthology, listed on Audible and Amazon, and appears among the 2019 contributors to the Africa Writes festival. During the COVID-19 pandemic he made a public appeal for vulnerable residents of Dzaleka.
